Welcome to the Maine Novice Hockey League (MNHL)—Maine’s exclusive co-ed hockey league for novice players, established in 2024!
The MNHL is tailored specifically for adult male and female beginner, novice, and lower-intermediate players. Whether you’re just starting out or currently playing in a D-level league, this is for you. Players from A, B, or higher-level C leagues are not eligible to join. All participants should have basic skating skills, including forward skating, stopping, and stick handling. Full hockey equipment is required, and adherence to all league rules is mandatory.
As the new season approaches, you can register as a player or goalie. You’ll fill out a brief skills assessment to help the league create balanced teams.
Before the season begins, we’ll host an introductory event and a draft for the teams. Preselected captains will choose players from three skill levels to form evenly matched teams. Once the draft is complete, the games will kick off the following month, following the arrival of new uniforms.
Our games are officiated by certified Maine referees and feature live scoring and entertainment between periods. Each game consists of three 13-minute periods, with the clock stopping during the last two minutes of the first and second periods and full clock stops in the third period, along with 2-minute breaks between periods.
Embark on your hockey journey with us—it’s an experience you thought wasn’t possible!
FEES
All player fees go directly to costs associated with the league, including ice rental, jerseys, liability and insurance, referees, scoreboard keepers, and our website. Any sponsor donations go toward enhancing your experience. The MNHL does not capture any fees as profit!
